Edidiong Nyojole, a 27-year-old man, has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl in Calabar. This verdict was delivered on Wednesday, May 5, 2026, by the Cross River State Family Court in the same state.

According to the court’s statement, Edidiong and his accomplice dragged the young girl into an unfinished building in the Uwanse area of Calabar South and sexually assaulted her. While his accomplice remains at large, Edidiong was convicted and found guilty of raping a minor, an offence punishable under Section 33 of the Cross River State Child Rights Law, 2009, which mandates life imprisonment for the defilement of a child.

The presiding judge, Justice Blessing Egwu, based the conviction and judgment on strong medical evidence, corroborating witness testimony, and the defendant’s admission during the trial. She also ordered him to pay ₦1,000,000 in compensation to the victim.
