Nigerian actresses Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Uche Montana, Sola Sobowale, Valerie Okeke, Ajamolaya Bunmi, and Mona Ombogo have emerged among the biggest winners at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
The ceremony covered 32 award categories and recorded eight women nominated for Best Lead Actress and eight for Best Supporting Actress.
Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman is known for her roles in Tinsel, Chief Daddy, and The Meeting. She won Best Lead Actress for her performance as Ijeoma in The Serpent’s Gift, an Igbo-language drama directed by Kayode Kasum. She also won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Adamma in The Herd, directed by Daniel Etim-Effiong, becoming the first actress in AMVCA history to win both acting categories in the same night.
During her acceptance speech, Linda reflected on a prayer she made three years ago. “I remember three years ago, I prayed to God and told Him that I wanted a role that would challenge me, and God did it,” she stated. “Thank you, God, for giving me this opportunity to stand here. Thank you to AMVCA for this platform.”
Uche Montana, an actress and producer known for her self-produced YouTube films Monica and Monica 2, received the Trailblazer Award, which recognises emerging talent making a significant impact in African film and digital storytelling. Veteran actress Sola Sobowale received the Industry Merit Award.
Uche accepted the award, dedicating it to young girls across Africa. “God decided to show up. This is for every young girl out there: keep dreaming, keep believing. If you’re told no, don’t stop; keep going. Thank you, thank you, Africa,” the 32-year-old stated.
In the craft categories, Valerie Okeke won Best Costume Design for Colours of Fire, and Ajamolaya Bunmi won Best Art Direction for the same film. Mona Ombogo also won Best Writing in a TV Series for Volume.
