Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star Tobi Amusan delivered her fastest performance of the season to finish second in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Xiamen Diamond League on May 23, 2026.
Competing at the Egret Stadium in Xiamen, China, Tobi clocked 12.28 seconds to secure silver behind American hurdler Masai Russell, who won the race in a world-leading time of 12.14 seconds.
Masai’s winning time came just two hundredths of a second short of the women’s 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 seconds set by Tobi during the semi-finals of the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
The Nigerian athlete’s 12.28-second finish surpassed her previous season’s best of 12.41 seconds and now stands as the fourth-fastest time of her career in the 100m hurdles event.
Running in her second Diamond League meeting of the season, Tobi Amusan was slightly behind at the start as Masai and Charlton reacted quicker off the blocks. However, she recovered strongly to secure second place in a highly competitive field featuring some of the world’s top hurdlers.
Other athletes in the race included Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds and Ackera Nugent, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, and Jamaica’s Danielle Williams.
Tobi Amusan entered the Xiamen meet on the back of another historic achievement after completing a three consecutive title sweep in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Senior Athletics Championships earlier this month.
She will now shift focus to the next Wanda Diamond League meeting scheduled to hold in Rabat, Morocco, on May 31, where she will aim to return to winning form and continue her strong start to the 2026 season.
