Dayo Amusa Condemns Online Pressure on Celebrities to Speak on Insecurity
Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has criticised the growing pressure on celebrities and creatives to constantly comment on insecurity and political issues, saying many entertainers are unfairly attacked online for simply promoting their work. She made the remarks in a post shared on X, where she expressed frustration over what she described as bullying directed at members of the creative industry.
According to the actress, many entertainers are often labelled insensitive whenever they share their projects or express opinions that do not align with public expectations.
“I woke up today with a very heavy heart. The bullying that many of you subject our colleagues to in the creative industry is crazy. They freely can’t share their opinion, they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive,” she wrote.
The actress noted that filmmakers and other creatives make significant financial investments in their work and should not be expected to suspend their careers because of the country’s challenges. She also made it clear that she would not allow online criticism to dictate how she uses her platform.
“The day I decided to start using this app actively, I made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter. I won’t pander to mobs, as I didn’t build my brand on it. I have other strings of income, don’t come under my post to act silly, I’ll send you home,” she stated.
Despite her criticism of online harassment, the actress expressed concern over the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, offering prayers for their safe return.
“May God bring succour to the families of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo State. May they return home safely,” she wrote.
Her comments come amid ongoing conversations about the role of public figures in addressing national issues, particularly insecurity, kidnapping and governance challenges.
