Real Warri Pikin Beats Trevor Noah, Basketmouth, Bovi to Win Best Stand-Up Comedian at AFRIMMA 2026

Nigerian comedian Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has won Best Stand-Up Comedian at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), held on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas. The win marks her first AFRIMMA title.
Real Warri Pikin beat a field stacked with some of the continent’s most recognised names in comedy. Nominees included fellow Nigerians Basketmouth, Bovi, and Godfrey; Kenya’s Eric Omondi and Ty Ngachira; Uganda’s Patrick “Salvado” Idringi; and South Africa’s Trevor Noah, arguably the most internationally famous African comedian in recent times.
That she came out on top in that lineup is incredible because stand-up comedy, in Nigeria and across the continent, remains an industry where women are still treated as the exception rather than the norm.
AFRIMMA has, since 2014, positioned itself as the biggest platform celebrating African music and entertainment in the United States, honouring artists and entertainers who shape culture across the continent and its diaspora
Real Warri Pikin built her career despite the hurdles. Known for her energetic delivery and heavy use of Nigerian Pidgin English, her comedy draws on relatable, everyday Nigerian experience, a style that helped her break into a scene long gatekept by men. Her rise has run alongside acting, digital content, and live hosting, but the AFRIMMA win marks one of her most significant international recognitions yet.
Off stage, she has used her platform for causes that go beyond entertainment. She is the founder of the Real Warri Pikin Foundation, an NGO focused on mental health advocacy and women’s economic empowerment, under which she has executed projects aimed at empowering women, including a recent 100K Women Grants Challenge and, in 2025, a ₦5 million giveaway supporting women-led businesses in Abia State.
