Nigerian actress and filmmaker Adunni Ade has threatened legal action against media outlets that published misogynistic narratives about her regarding beauty and marital failures.

Over the weekend, top Twitter blogs, including Naija PR and Instablog9ja, attracted widespread attention after sharing a viral post about the actress. The post claimed that during an interview, Adunni Ade said she used to be admired for her beauty and attention from men, yet remains unmarried.

One of the blog posts read: “Beauty fades, but character stays. Know your worth and be whole. Beauty alone isn’t enough —Adunni Ade” The now-deleted post attracted over 1 million views, 256 likes, and 36 reposts on X.

In a statement released by her management, Guguru Media, Adunni Ade denied ever granting an interview that contained such claims and described the viral reports as fabricated and defamatory. She issued a 24-hour ultimatum to all media platforms involved, demanding the immediate removal of the misleading content, a public retraction, and an unreserved apology.

“To Whom It May Concern, I hereby request the immediate cessation of the dissemination of false and unverified information pertaining to my character and reputation. Such actions constitute a criminal offence under the applicable legislation, specifically the Criminal Code and the Cyber Crimes Act.”

She emphasised that the unauthorised use of her name to attract engagement and peddle misinformation was unacceptable and warned that failure to comply would result in legal action. Adunni Ade stressed the need to protect her name and brand from being exploited for social media notoriety.

While pointing out the now-deleted publication by Vanguard Newspaper as one of the sources, she called out all platforms that reposted the article without verifying its authenticity.

“I kindly request you to take down this post within 24 hours to prevent further action involving my legal team,”  she added. “I don’t appreciate the fact that you are using my name to peddle false news and articles with no verifiable source just to generate engagement.”

Following her statement, most of the blogs have taken down their posts.
