The AdvoKC Foundation, in partnership with Naija Feminists Media, will host an X Space on October 31, 2025, to discuss women’s inclusion in the Edo State cabinet and the government’s progress toward achieving its commitment to 35% female representation.
AdvoKC Foundation, in collaboration with Naija Feminists Media, will host an X Space discussion on October 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. (WAT), themed “Honour the 35% Commitment: Where Are the Women in Edo State Cabinet?”
The conversation will examine the Edo State Government’s progress toward fulfilling its campaign promise of 35% female representation in governance. Following consistent advocacy by NFM and Advokc, Dr Elizabeth Onome Ebosele was appointed and confirmed as Commissioner by the Edo State House of Assembly in September 2025. This appointment brought the number of women in Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 31-member cabinet to three.
While this appointment marks a minor improvement, the figure remains far below Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 35% commitment. Key leadership roles, including those of the Governor, Deputy Governor; Dennis Idahosa, Secretary to the State Government; Umar Musa Ikhilor, and Chief of Staff; Gani Audu, are currently occupied by men, resulting in a largely male-dominated cabinet.
The upcoming X Space will feature a panel of speakers who will analyse the implications of this gap and discuss strategies to improve women’s participation in leadership and political decision-making in Edo State and Nigeria. Guest speakers include Ms Wonderful Akinwa-Osatemple, a humanitarian, entrepreneur, and advocate, and Ms Violet Oghogho Olumese, Esq., a lawyer and member of the Lion Bar and FIDA Edo State. They will be joined by Peter O. Aguebor, a governance and climate advocate, and Umoru Annie, a human rights and gender advocate.
Join the conversation as we hold the government accountable for ensuring women’s inclusion and representation in leadership positions in Edo State.
