Summary
Arabic teacher Oladosu Sakiru has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by Justice Rahman Oshodi for raping a 13-year-old girl.
An Arabic teacher, Oladosu Sakiru, has been convicted and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old pupil. The verdict was handed down by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on January 14, 2025. The court also ordered that his name be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.
The trial judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, sentenced Oladosu following his guilty plea to the amended two counts of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.
Delivering his judgement, Justice Rahman Oshodi reprimanded the convict for breaching the trust the parents of the survivor had in him for enrolling their children in the Islamic school.
“As an imam and an Arabic school teacher, you occupy a position of significant trust; that trust extended not only to the 13-year-old child, the one you victimised, but also to her parents and the entire community who look to you for spiritual and moral guidance,” Justice Rahman Oshodi said.
According to the prosecution, the offences committed violated Sections 135 and 262 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Oladosu Sakiru was, therefore, sentenced to 14 years imprisonment on count one and 7 years imprisonment on count two, and both jail terms would run consecutively.
