The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed the arraignment of the man who assaulted his wife just four days after she gave birth. The attack reportedly left her in critical condition and sparked public outrage.
The incident, which sparked outrage after a viral video surfaced online, showed the man beating her in the presence of her newborn and her mother. According to reports, the woman passed out during the assault and received emergency medical care at a hospital.
In a statement on X, the DSVA said the perpetrator was arraigned on Monday, August 4, 2025, before Magistrate Mobolaji O. Tanimola at the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ogba. He faces a two-count charge of assault occasioning harm and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, contrary to Sections 170 and 168 (d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
The court adjourned the case to August 11, 2025, and the perpetrator remains in custody as the legal process continues.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on abuse, the Lagos State Government, through the DSVA, vowed to ensure justice, protection, and holistic support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected abuse, stating,
 “If you see something, say something, report it.”
