Naija Feminists Media (NFM) is hosting a Twitter Space on December 10, 2024, to conclude its #16DaysOfActivism campaign, which began on November 25 under the theme “I Am Not Your Prey or Afraid No More.” This year’s campaign included media literacy articles, collaborations with women’s rights organisations, and literary works like poetry and essays to raise awareness, challenge gender stereotypes, amplify Black feminist perspectives, and inspire action for a fairer society.
This discussion, titled “Facilitating Behavioural Change from Male Perpetrators of Violence Against Women & Girls,” will explore strategies to transform harmful attitudes, beliefs, and actions that sustain gender-based violence. It will also examine the role of societal norms in perpetuating male violence against women and highlight proactive measures to prevent future violence.
Participants will gain insights into challenging deeply rooted behaviours and reshaping societal perceptions to promote equality and respect for women.
The United Nations defines violence against women as any act of gender-based violence that results in or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life. GBV, particularly male violence against women and girls (MVAWG), remains a global crisis, with 1 in 3 women experiencing violence in their lifetime. Alarmingly, as many as 38% of all femicides are committed by intimate partners, underscoring the urgent need for action.
As part of the conversation, the space will explore prevention methods and how communities can work together to foster equality and respect. NFM continues to champion the rights and safety of women, calling on everyone to participate in creating a more inclusive and violence-free society.
An impressive lineup of speakers will lead the conversation, including Gladys Emmanuel, Yibari Majesty Kingsley, Elizabeth Ogunbamowo, Zainab Monisola Olaitan, Bukola Taiwo, Tinuade Mary O., Sarah Evbotokhai-Obiorah, and Deborah Ekone. These passionate advocates will bring their wealth of experience and expertise to inspire actionable change and meaningful solutions.
Join this important conversation at 6 PM on December 10, 2024, to amplify the fight against male violence against women and create a safer, more equitable future. For more information and updates, follow @NaijaRadFem on X. Don’t miss it!
