To strengthen and boost primary healthcare across the country, the Federal Government, through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), has disbursed N32.9 billion to every health facility in the country. It urged citizens to monitor the fund spending to ensure it reaches the people it is meant for.
The Federal Government, through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), has approved and released N32.9 bn to boost and strengthen primary healthcare across the country. This funding marked the third disbursement in 2025.
This new development was publicised on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, through a letter titled “The Red Letter” and duly signed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate.
The letter explained that the funding is the heartbeat of Nigeria’s renewed hope in health, emphasising that the government is the custodian of the fund, but trusts the citizens to help safeguard its spending. The letter emphasised that the funding is being transferred to the commercial bank account of every primary health facility in the country.
It further urged every citizen to be actively involved in the planning, decision-making, and expenditure of the fund. The federal government emphasised that communities should not be mere observers, but rather join health committees, demand transparency, review plans, and ensure that funding reaches the intended beneficiaries.
“The health committee in your ward, your traditional leaders, your women’s and youth groups, your faith-based organisations—all of you are meant to sit together, decide together, and spend together on what will make your facility stronger, safer, and more ready to serve. This fund is the heartbeat of Nigeria’s renewed hope in health—a signal that the government is not only fulfilling its responsibility as the custodian of the fund, but trusting you to help safeguard that spending,” part of the red letter reads.
