Award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has made history with her latest film, Behind The Scenes, which crossed the N200 million mark in its opening weekend, setting the biggest opening weekend of 2025. The film’s impressive performance places Funke’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmakers.
Behind The Scenes is a Nollywood drama that explores the hidden struggles, pressures, healing and unspoken truths behind success and fame in the entertainment industry. The film features an ensemble cast including Funke Akindele, Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, Scarlet Gomez, Destiny Etiko, Uzor Arukwe, Uche Montana, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebayo Adebowale (Mr Macaroni), Fausat Balogun, Ejiro Onajaife, Wanni and Handi Danbaki, Afeez Oyetoro, Dele Odule, and Akinola Ayoola Kamo.
According to distributor FilmOne Entertainment, Behind The Scenes not only crossed the N200 million threshold but also broke five opening weekend records and achieved the largest weekend admissions of 2025, with 34,548 tickets sold. Advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 created significant buzz ahead of the nationwide release on December 12, 2025.
This achievement follows Funke Akindele’s previous box office triumphs, including Everybody Loves Jenifa and A Tribe Called Judah, which set new milestones for Nollywood cinema. Everybody Loves Jenifa remains the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, earning over N1.8 billion in Nigeria alone.
With the film still showing nationwide, it is expected that its total earnings will continue to grow, further cementing Funke Akindele’s status as the “Queen of the Box Office.”
