Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, met with Her Excellency Norma Ang Sánchez, the Mexican Ambassador to Ghana, to discuss strategies for deepening the relationship between the two nations.

During their discussion, Ambassador Sánchez reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to fostering stronger cooperation with Ghana across various sectors.

Prof. Naana Jane emphasised the importance of exchanging ideas and promoting mutual understanding, highlighting the peaceful coexistence between both countries. She stressed the need to embrace cultural differences while working together to address shared challenges for the collective benefit of both nations.

She also emphasised the significance of youth investment and explored potential areas of collaboration that could leverage Ghana and Mexico’s strengths. South-South cooperation and deeper engagement in different sectors were key topics in their discussions.

Additionally, the Vice President extended her warm congratulations to Her Excellency Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Mexico’s first female president. She highlighted the need to challenge misconceptions about women’s contributions to society. She encouraged continued knowledge exchange, resource-sharing, and the evaluation of past initiatives to develop innovative solutions to common challenges.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was inaugurated as Ghana’s Vice President on January 8, 2025, following her victory in the 2024 elections. She made history as the first woman to hold the position. Since assuming office, she has prioritised collaboration, youth empowerment, and the advancement of women’s leadership, signalling a progressive path for Ghana’s future.
