Former minister of police affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim is now Nigeria’s new minister of Women’s affairs. This was announced on Oct. 23, 2024, in a document released by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s office.
Following the appointment of Imaan, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the former minister of women’s affairs, was relieved of her duties along with four others. Lola Ade-John, the minister of tourism; Jamila Bio Ibrahim, the minister of youth development; Tahir Mamman, the minister of education; and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, the minister of state, housing, and urban development, were the other officials affected. Of the five discharged ministers, three were women.
The “far-reaching actions” were taken after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council. The council announced that its decision is intended “to reinvigorate the administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant to his (President Bola Tinubu’s) commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.”
The newly elected Minister of Women’s Affairs Imaan is an award-winning politician, strategist, and country expert in conflict management, Human Capital Development, and peace-building. She previously served Nigeria as Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Honourable Federal Commissioner HFC/CEO for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). She is also currently engaging in doctoral studies after earning two Master’s degrees.
President Bola Tinubu charged Imaan and the other newly appointed ministers to see their appointment as a call to serve the nation and set Nigeria on a path to irreversible growth.
