Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has been shortlisted for the 2025 International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO Women’s World XI), becoming the only Nigerian to make the list.
The International Federation of Professional Footballers is the only global football award decided exclusively by professional footballers. The FIFPRO Women’s World XI finalists are chosen based on votes from professional footballers worldwide, recognising performances between August 11, 2024, and August 3, 2025. Players must have appeared in at least 20 official matches during that period.
She earned the nomination following her remarkable performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and her club, Houston Dash, in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Michelle also played a key role in Nigeria’s campaign at WAFCON, scoring the winning goal in the Super Falcons’ semi-final victory over Banyana Banyana of South Africa. Her impressive form earned her a spot in the Team of the Tournament.
She is among eight players nominated in the defenders’ category, competing against top global stars including Ona Batlle, Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Olga Carmona, Ellie Carpenter, Alex Greenwood, and Leah Williamson.
Michelle Alozie is also one of three Africans on the shortlist, alongside Moroccan captain Ghizlane Chebbak and Zambia’s skipper Barbra Banda. This year, more than 26,000 players from 68 countries participated in the voting process.
The winners will be announced on November 3, 2025.
