Summary

Lagos State University of Education lecturer Muyiwa Kolapo has been sentenced to life imprisonment after raping one of his students.

Muyiwa Kolapo, a former part-time lecturer at Lagos State University of Education (formerly Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education) and father of three children, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping one of his students.

This verdict took place on Friday, February 28th, 2025, after the convict was arraigned on October 23rd, 2025.

According to the survivor’s statement, Muyiwa requested her to get him food, which was a ploy to get her into his office. After she obliged, the perpetrator raped her.

When Muyiwa was initially arraigned for his crime, he pleaded not guilty, claiming the survivor had accepted to be his girlfriend. However, many documents were admitted and submitted to the court, which found him guilty.

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja gave the verdict on the case as thus: “Kolawole Muyiwa, I have found you guilty of rape contrary to section 260 of the criminal law chapter 17 volume laws of Lagos state 2015. As a part-time lecturer, you occupied the position of trust and authority, which you abused.’’

This report is one of the many rape cases reported we have reported, highlighting male violence against women.
