Myrtle Vine Academy, a private school in Anambra State, has earned international recognition by emerging as the winner of the prestigious Global Schools Connect competition. This competition is an innovation-driven event organised by the United Kingdom to foster collaboration among schools globally through solution-driven projects..
Representing Nigeria, the school was led by students Chimbundom Njoku and Okolo Joan, whose project titled BizApp outperformed entries from top-ranking institutions in the UK and other countries to claim the top prize at the 2025 edition of the competition.
BizApp was developed as a solution to Africa’s unemployment and production challenges. The project promotes entrepreneurship and sustainable local production and is rooted in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 1: No Poverty.
For her outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial vision, Chimbundom Njoku received the Director’s Award for Social Enterprise. Her teammate, Okolo Joan, was honoured with the Creative Impact Award, with Chimbundom also named runner-up in the same category.
During an award ceremony held at the school on July 15, the school’s Director, Ms. Ebele Njoku, expressed immense pride in the students’ performance. She described the win as a reflection of Myrtle Vine’s enduring commitment to academic brilliance, character development, and global relevance.
“This victory is a validation of the quality of education and moral formation that Myrtle Vine Academy stands for,” Ms. Ebele said. “Our students have demonstrated not only academic brilliance but also the courage to engage in global challenges.”
This international win adds to the school’s growing list of achievements. In 2024, Myrtle Vine Academy was the first runner-up at the National Girls in ICT Challenge and received the Trailblazers Award, personally presented by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
The school was also recognised by Global Hub UK as one of the Best Private Schools in Africa, further reinforcing its position as a rising force in education, innovation, and empowerment.
