Summary

Naija Feminists Media partners with CrispNG partners to promote gender-inclusive media by amplifying women’s stories through content sharing and cross-publishing.

Naija Feminists Media (NFM) has partnered with Crisp Nigeria (CrispNG) on Oct. 16, 2024, to foster gender inclusion in journalism. Gender inclusion in media is the fair representation of all sex classes in the various forms of media.

Currently, women are invisible in Nigerian media content with only an 18% inclusion rate and only 7% of stories referencing gender equality. Also, women are more likely to be featured as victims in news stories or identified by their family status rather than their accomplishments.

Thus, the organisations’ partnership seeks to change that narrative. Through content sharing, the media think tanks will elevate women’s stories in the media, improve women’s representation across media platforms, and ensure they are meaningfully represented and portrayed fairly in the media.

NFM is Nigeria’s first radical feminist platform dedicated to reporting women’s stories, perspectives, and feminist works to ensure accurate potrayal in the media free from bias and propaganda. In alignment with these objectives, CrispNG is an online medium committed to societal rebirth and passionate about accountability, climate change, youth and women’s inclusion, good governance, and solution journalism.

Blessing Chukwuneke, CrispNG’s communication strategist, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership.

“As a youth-oriented platform, women’s inclusion is a major focus at CrispNG. Therefore, we are happy to partner with Naija Feminist Media, which is also committed to the same cause,” she said in a statement.

She also said that the partnership would further amplify the organisation’s drive for greater women’s inclusion in Nigeria.

“This partnership reinforces our belief that two good heads are better than one. By collaborating with Naija Feminist Media, we can create more awareness around women’s inclusion in Nigeria and promote a better society, where everyone is appreciated and given equal opportunity to thrive,” she continued.

NFM’s communications officer, Oluwafunmbi Ogunsola, also echoed a similar sentiment. She emphasised that the partnership will amplify women’s stories and disrupt the traditional media bias that often portrays them negatively.

“Naija Feminists Media is committed to advocating for women’s rights through objective reporting of gender-related dynamics and women’s related stories. Partnering with CrispNG whose values align with the organisation is a natural step.” She said. “The content-sharing collaboration would ensure women’s stories are fairly represented and amplified in Nigerian media currently dominated by male representation.”

This initiative is an important step toward reducing gender representation imbalance in the media and creating a more inclusive environment for women’s stories and experiences.
