Investigative journalist and founder of Naija Feminists Media (NFM) Simbiat Bakare has won the 2025 Global Excellence Award from the African Union Agenda 2063 Women’s Impact Award. The event was held on May 24 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Global Excellence Summit & Awards (GESA) is an international platform that celebrates distinguished leaders in diplomacy, business, advocacy, and innovation. This year, GESA recognised Simbiat for her “exceptional contributions, leadership, and influence,” stating that her work embodies the values of excellence, innovation, and global impact that the award represents.
Simbiat Bakare was chosen from a strong group of nominees whose work has greatly impacted Africa and beyond.
Her latest accolade adds to a growing list of recognitions for her groundbreaking work in media and advocacy. She has previously received the She Global Award, was listed among She Leads Africa’s 50 Under 30, and has earned accolades including the African Fact-Checking Awards, DUBAWA Fact Check Awards, True Story Award, and the OMA Awards.
