Summary

Nigerian women, led by Raye’s viral video, joined the #30DayRantChallenge to highlight economic struggles, rising costs, and government failures, demanding urgent action.

A recent video posted on March 15, 2025, by a young Nigerian woman named Raye has gone viral, igniting widespread discussions on social media. In the video, Raye expressed her frustration over the continuous rise in food prices and openly criticised the president for failing to address the economic crisis.

Raye recounted her recent visit to a supermarket, where she noticed yet another increase in food prices. She questioned the government’s inaction, asking if there would ever be a halt to the relentless price hikes. In addition to food inflation, she highlighted how her electricity bill had doubled, lamenting that most of her income was now spent on covering essential bills.

Beyond economic concerns, Raye also called out the Lagos State Government over the worsening sanitary conditions in parts of the state, particularly the persistent foul odour in some areas. She further criticised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), stating that her transportation expenses far exceeded the stipend (allawee) provided to corps members. According to Raye, instead of addressing these concerns, the NYSC had reportedly threatened her for speaking out.

In solidarity with struggling Nigerians, Raye proposed the #30DayRantChallenge, urging citizens to speak up about the hardships they face daily as a result of government policies. The challenge has gained traction, with many Nigerians sharing their grievances online.

Several Nigerian women have joined the conversation, expressing their frustrations with the economy. On X, user @SavvyRinu stated that Nigeria is also draining romance out of people’s lives, as almost everyone is worried about money.

“Almost everyone you meet is worried about money. We are all in survival mode.”

Another user, @Ony1nyechi, shared that they can’t remember the last time they ate something they actually wanted, adding that this is not the life they envisioned.

“I literally just eat to survive these days. This is not life we are living in this country”

@Thinna_Bodi expressed frustration over the skyrocketing price of sanitary pads,

“I used to buy pad 180 naira o. Now pads are freaking expensive. How’s the girl in the village with little to no source of income doing?”

@oluwakiishi recounted how she used to sell wallet purses for 1,000 naira but now have to sell them for 2,500 naira in less than a year.

“My business vision was to be able to provide affordable essentials for my target audience which are students and they can’t even afford it anymore. Nigeria’s economy is beyond terrible!!” she said.

As the #30DayRantChallenge continues to gain momentum, many are calling for urgent government intervention to address the economic crisis. With inflation on the rise and basic necessities becoming unaffordable, Nigerians are demanding immediate and effective solutions to alleviate their struggles.
