With a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over their opponent (Morocco) on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at Rabat Olympic Stadium, Morocco, the Super Falcons secured the groundbreaking record of a 10th title at the WAFCON. The team is recognised as Africa’s most successful international women’s football team and the country’s national pride.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their feelings towards the team’s win. Economist and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, called the performance “thrilling” and said it was a “super exciting match to watch.”
Similarly, Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, called the match a historic performance showcasing “strength, resilience, and spirit that have made the whole nation proud.”

Rasheedat Ajibade, the Super Falcon captain, expressed that the achievement is not just a title but a reflection of the team’s determination, unity, and dedication to their country and supporters. She advised women and girls to hold on to their passion, work hard and know that anything is possible.
In recognition of the achievement, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu bestowed national honours and generous gifts on the team.
A reception was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on July 28, 2025, where the President conferred the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-member technical team, which is one of Nigeria’s highest civilian honours.
Each player received the Naira equivalent of $100,000 in cash, while each technical staff member was awarded $50,000.
To further reward their achievement, President Tinubu directed the allocation of a three-bedroom flat in the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme in Abuja to each squad member and support staff member. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum also pledged ₦10 million per team member as a show of solidarity and celebration of the national heroes.
