Okpodighi Eno-Obong Iyakakwa, a student of the University of Calabar, has emerged as the only First Class graduate in her set ahead of the university’s forthcoming convocation. She was also named the Overall Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, becoming the first female to attain the position within the faculty.

She graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Raised by a single mother, she balanced work and studies, navigating financial and academic pressures with determination and focus.

Okpodighi is from Mbokpu Uko Akai in Urue-Offong Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. During her studies, she combined academic work with other engagements. Her academic performance placed her at the top of her cohort within the faculty. In addition to her academic record, she held a leadership role as Vice President of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers Students’ Chapter (NIMechE-SF) at the university.

Her areas of interest include welding, machining, and technical applications in engineering. The university is expected to formally recognise outstanding graduates, including Okpodighi Iyakakwa, at its upcoming convocation ceremony.
