Public Health Expert Fatima Zuntu Appointed National Biosafety Management Agency’s Head

Summary: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu as Director-General/CEO of the National Biosafety Management Agency for a four-year term, citing her strong public health and policy experience.
Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu has been appointed Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The appointment, which takes effect from April 16, 2026, is for an initial term of four years and is in line with Section 5 of the National Biosafety Management Agency Act, 2015.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, Dr. Fatima brings extensive experience to the role as a public health professional and policy strategist.
The statement noted that she has a proven track record of driving impactful national programmes, positioning her to strengthen the agency’s regulatory mandate. President Tinubu also charged the new appointee to deploy her expertise toward advancing the objectives of the agency and contributing to national development.
Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu previously worked as a Health, Nutrition and Population Consultant with the World Bank Group from December 2023 to June 2025. She earlier served as a Medical Officer at Kapital Hospital and Maternity Nigeria Ltd in Abuja, as well as at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), after completing her housemanship at the National Hospital Abuja in 2018.
