Summary
Senator Natasha's lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio for sexual harassment is set to be reviewed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on June 27, 2025.
Justice Binta Nyako, a Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, has fixed June 27, 2025, as the verdict date on the lawsuit filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. This is regarding her unjust suspension from the Senate following the accusation of sexual harassment made against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Earlier this year, Senator Natasha accused the Senate President, Godswill, of sexual harassment following a dispute over the sitting arrangement at the Senate on February 20, 2025. She reported being frustrated by the Senate president for not giving in to his demands.
Citing “gross misconduct” as the disciplinary action against her, the Senate Committee of Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions suspended Senator Natasha for six months. The senator sought court intervention over the issue.
On April 4, the first day of the court proceeding, Justice Binta instructed all the parties involved to refrain from social media posts regarding the suit. However, the four defendants alleged that Senator Natasha’s Facebook post titled “Satirical Apology” violated the court order. But Counsel’s legal team drew the line and insisted that the Facebook post was unrelated to the lawsuit and thus baseless.
Nevertheless, Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the lawsuit to June 27, 2025. She pointed out that a verdict will be passed on the contempt application before addressing the preliminary objections, and the outcome of those objections would determine whether the court proceeds to rule on the substantive case.
