Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion and 1,800 bags of rice to survivors of the recent attacks in Plateau State under the Renewed Hope Initiative on July 3, 2025.
Her visit follows the recent attacks in Plateau State, where armed men carried out attacks on June 11, 2025, killing 58 people, burning 82 houses, and displacing over 15,000 residents in the Riyom area.
At the Government House in Jos, Senator Oluremi appealed to all stakeholders to do everything possible to restore lasting peace to Plateau communities shattered by violence.
Condemning the attacks on innocent villagers, Senator Oluremi described the killings as evil and very unfortunate and urged traditional rulers to take the lead in healing and rebuilding.
“As custodians of the land, I appeal to traditional rulers to bring peace back to our communities,” she said. “Just as it is stated in the second stanza of our national anthem — to hand unto our children a banner without stain.”
Mr Caleb Mutfwang, Plateau State Governor, thanked Senator Oluremi for her compassion and generosity, assuring that every kobo of the ₦1 billion would be transparently used to support survivors. He described her intervention as timely and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security in Plateau.
Other dignitaries, including Hajiya Nana Shettima, Hajiya Fatima Abbas, Ms. Salamatu Gbajabiamila, Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, and Hajiya Laila Barau, also accompanied Senator Oluremi at the initiative.
