Investigative journalist and founder of Naija Feminists Media, Simbiat Bakare, has been selected as one of the top three finalists for the Tech-for-Good Entrepreneur Award at the PAWENpreneur Awards 2025. Her inspiring work, leadership, and impact stood out among numerous exceptional nominations received this year.

The Tech-for-Good Entrepreneur Award, under the Entrepreneurship and Business Excellence category, celebrates women leading innovative ventures that drive positive change through technology. Other awards in this category include African Business Matriarch, Sustainable Business Leader, Cultural Enterprise, and Emerging Founder.

She leads NFM in championing women’s liberation through unbiased and propaganda-free media. The organisation produces knowledge-driven content that challenges Nigeria’s patriarchal culture, dismantles stereotypes that portray gender equality as un-African, and amplifies Nigerian women’s voices on global gender issues. Through this mission, NFM has trained editorial fellows in feminist journalism, raised funds to support women’s education, visited schools to sensitise young girls about their rights and hosted twitter Spaces to raise awareness on women’s issues.

Simbiat is known also for her compelling, women-focused journalism. She has authored several reports, including the award-winning Odalo story, the state of women-owned businesses in Nigeria, and how domestic violence displaced a woman from her community. Her investigative story on surrogacy in Nigeria also led to Meta safeguarding its platform by taking down surrogacy groups exploiting women.

The PAWENpreneur Awards celebrate outstanding African women leaders across various sectors, including finance, health, innovation, sustainability, public service, and social impact. This year’s hybrid event awards will take place on November 15, 2025. The event will commence with the Digital Summit & Exhibition at 9:00 AM WAT, followed by the Awards Gala Dinner at 4:00 PM WAT at The Zone, Gbagada, Lagos, Nigeria.
