In a post shared on her official X account, Prof. Nanna noted a visit from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs). She congratulated them on their success in the recent elections and urged them to continue working towards a higher representation of women in Parliament.
“We increased our numbers but can still do better,” said the vice president.
She further emphasised the importance of mentorship and mutual support among parliamentarians as they embark on their tenures. She encouraged them to remain focused on their constituencies and deliver for the country.
The MPs, expressing their gratitude, assured Prof. Nanna of their commitment to working alongside her and President Mahama to build the Ghana they all envision.
Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang wasted no time in her new role as Vice President of Ghana, demonstrating her commitment to international diplomacy and leadership.
In her first week, she joined President Mahama in hosting numerous delegations, addressing key bilateral and multilateral matters. Demonstrating her continued diplomatic efforts, she also met with the Palestinian Envoy to Ghana, His Excellency Abdalfatah Ahmed Halil, further reinforcing Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation and peace-building.
Among these engagements, she received the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, Huseyin Gungor, who reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and Türkiye. During their meeting, they discussed the enduring ties between the two countries and pledged mutual support.
Additionally, Prof. Nanna received a delegation of Vice Chancellors, including Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo of the University of Ghana, Prof. Lydia Aziato, Vice Chancellor of UHAS, and Prof. Esi Awuah, former Vice Chancellor of UENR, highlighting her focus on empowering women in leadership roles within academia.
Through these engagements, Prof. Nanna’s first week in office demonstrates her dedication to fostering collaboration and empowering women, signalling hope for a prosperous tenure.
