The video, which promises Nigerians earnings of N2.6 million in one week for a N380,000 investment, uses AI technology to impersonate Okonjo-Iweala.

World Trade Organisation Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has alerted Nigerians to another fake AI-manipulated video circulating online using her image. The Director General made this known in a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday, February 11, 2026.

“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this. As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” she wrote.

The fake video uses AI to manipulate Okonjo-Iweala’s image and voice and promote a fraudulent investment scheme. In the video, the impersonator claims to be offering Nigerians an opportunity to earn N2.6 million in one week by investing a minimum of N380,000.

The impersonator claims in the video that thousands of families across the country are already benefiting from the initiative.

“If you join this programme today, you can earn up to N2,660,000 in just the first week. This is not a dream. It’s real, verifiable, and backed by a system designed for your success,” the video states.

The scam video instructs victims to make a minimum investment of N380,000 and promises daily returns automatically. This is not the first time Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s image has been used in fraudulent schemes. In January 2025, she alerted Nigerians to a deep fake video on Facebook promoting a fake diabetes cure and falsely claiming she would pay $2 million if the cure failed.

In November 2025, she issued a public warning to disregard a false statement circulating on social media relating to Donald Trump.

She repeatedly emphasised that she only posts on X (formerly Twitter) and never on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. She urged Nigerians to verify the authenticity of any content claiming to be from her by checking her official X account.
