In solidarity with efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking in Nigeria, the Kogi Central legislators, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has pledged $1,000 in support of an upcoming book project by Izzy Ogbeide. She announced her support on Saturday, March 21, 2026, as part of a crowdfunding effort for the project.
Recall that Izzy is a victim of human trafficking who was trafficked as a teenager to Italy to engage in prostitution. After regaining her freedom, the media personality outrightly called out the Nigerian government for its indifferent attitude toward protecting the people and accused the NAPTIP of ignoring appeals for help as a trafficking survivor
Izzy’s upcoming book is a memoir that details her experience of being trafficked as a teenager to Italy, where she was forced into sex work before eventually reclaiming her freedom. It raises awareness about the harsh realities of human trafficking, explores her healing process and her decision to confront the stigma and shame that many survivors carry in silence.
The Senator commended Izzy’s courage, noting that survivors of abuse never truly recover and that initiatives like this book can help educate the public and drive collective efforts toward combating trafficking.
“Trauma from abuse and violations often leaves lifelong scars. It changes people, and the truth is, not everyone fully recovers,” Senator Natasha said. “I commend Izzy Ogbeide for finding the strength to tell her story.”
In addition, Senator Natasha called for stronger policies, better protection and collective responsibilities to ensure that no young girl is ever trafficked. She encouraged Nigerians to support the book project and advocated that women’s voices must be amplified for meaningful change in society.
