Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has condemned the sexual assault of women and girls in Ozoro, Delta State. She called the incident horrific, calling on authorities to apprehend perpetrators through a press statement posted on her X account on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Recall that on March 19, 2026, men in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, gangraped and assaulted women and girls on the streets and in their homes during the Uruamudhu Aluejo Festival.

“I watched the horrific viral footage emerging from Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, showing girls physically and sexually assaulted, subjected to degrading and barbaric treatment during what was supposed to be a community festival,” Senator Oluremi stated.

The First Lady emphasised that no cultural tradition justifies male violence against women and girls.

“I believe that no such tradition or custom grants any man the right to violate the dignity or freedom of any woman or girl,” she stated. 

She further urged survivors to seek medical and psychological help, while praying for their  healing.
