On July 1, 2026, Nigerian content creator Celyn Ukam stated on Instagram that if anyone preached marriage to her, she could arrest them, adding that she had completely checked out of the idea of marriage and pregnancy.
The declaration followed her revelation that her estranged fiancé, identified as Dozie, battered her during pregnancy, sent police to her home while she was a nursing mother, and threatened to take their newborn daughter out of the country.

She detailed the abuse she stated she endured at the hands of her estranged fiancé across the course of their relationship, through her pregnancy, and into her postpartum period.
She stated that he was threatening to break into her house and take their newborn daughter out of the country, adding that she had been emotionally and physically abused by Dozie throughout their relationship, from her pregnancy through her postpartum recovery.
“As a nursing mother, my life is currently not safe in Lagos. After getting a Caesarean section and taking care of my newborn all alone, they would threaten to come break down my door and take away my child to another country if I didn’t do this or that.”
She welcomed her daughter, Eliora, in late 2025 after a publicly known engagement to Dozie. In her posts, she stated that the abuse began while she was pregnant, stating that Dozie and his mother accused her of being possessed by a marine spirit, blamed her for his financial struggles, and pressured her into apologising after she called off their wedding because she had refused to sponsor the ceremony herself.
“I literally had to go and apologise for calling off the wedding rites cause I didn’t want to sponsor my wedding. That’s how bad they gaslighted me.”
Celyn stated that Dozie battered her 24 hours after her Caesarean section at Evercare Hospital, Lagos. “Tell them how you pushed me after a CS. Tell them how you came back apologising after that incident, and then returned to calling me a manipulator for crying and begging you to stop.”
She added that her friend, identified as @ms_izabel, was present and was also threatened during the incident. She also stated that Dozie sent police to her home while she was still a nursing mother, writing:
“You sent the police to a nursing mother you abused. Threatened to kpai. God will judge you.”
In screenshots of messages she shared publicly, Dozie sent her messages stating he would come to see their daughter any day and “any time” he wanted, regardless of her wishes. “Do I let someone who threatened to kill me and violated me countless times badge into my house unannounced at any time? Especially at night? Am I safe with someone like this?”
She also revealed that Dozie paid for only one balloon on the day she gave birth, while she covered all other expenses during their relationship, including his bills.
“You said I was after your money, and I ran you dry. Did you tell them how I paid your bills and paid for everything? You almost gaslighted me into paying your rent,” she stated.
Celyn stated that the cumulative trauma of the relationship and its aftermath has affected her physically, including damage to her spine from her Caesarean section, which she stated she is still recovering from through weekly physiotherapy, and psychologically, spending money weekly on therapy.
She stated that marriage was no longer something she could contemplate, writing, “I don’t wanna get pregnant again in my life. That’s how bad I’ve checked out. If you preach marriage to me, I can arrest you.”
Battering of pregnant women and nursing mothers by intimate partners is among the most severe forms of gender-based violence documented in Nigeria, yet it remains among the least prosecuted.
