Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang hosted a high-level delegation from the Shenzhen Energy Group on January 27 on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. The delegation was led by Mr Ouyang Huiyu, Executive President of Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited, and its management team.
The discussions centred on expanding Sunon Asogli’s role in Ghana’s energy sector to address the country’s growing energy needs. Prof. Naana Jane expressed deep gratitude for the company’s steadfast support in overcoming challenges related to energy supply.
The meeting also highlighted the enduring bilateral ties between Ghana and China, with both sides emphasising how such partnerships continue to yield mutual benefits.
A key focus of the discussion was capacity building, particularly the training and retraining of local staff to enhance operational efficiency. The Vice President strongly advocated for greater inclusion of women engineers in the energy sector. As a result, the Chinese delegation agreed to facilitate training opportunities for selected women engineers at their facilities in China.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting future project expansions that will bolster Ghana’s energy infrastructure and ensure sustainable growth.
