In a viral video, Funke Akindele emphasised that women are not the weaker sex, advocating for respect, equality, and economic empowerment while urging women to secure financial independence.

Award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has reaffirmed her stance on feminism, emphasising that women are not the weaker sex.

In a short video circulating online, Funke Akindele stated,

“I believe that women are not lesser. Men should treat us specially and respect their women. You shouldn’t feel that because she is a woman, she belongs in the kitchen or that you can talk to her anyhow.”

She further stressed the importance of economic empowerment, saying,

“We are strong, we are bold, and we can do things well. Our economic power is important to us, that’s why I’m saying that we protect it and make sure we have that economic power so we can decide .”

A longtime advocate for women’s financial independence, Funke Akindele spoke at “Her Money, Her Power,” an initiative by SheTank and BellaNaija, aimed at strengthening women’s economic standing in Nigeria and reshaping conversations around their impact. She urged young women to prioritise financial education and training to secure their futures.

Beyond her advocacy, Funke Akindele continues to break barriers in entertainment and business. She holds the record for the highest-grossing Nollywood films, surpassing her own box office records. She has also expanded into real estate with the launch of “Jenifa Gardens,” a premium residential estate in Eleko, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. Additionally, she serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), advocating for HIV awareness in Nigeria.
