Nigerian Lawyer Eunice Ameh Regains Freedom After Abduction

Eunice Ameh, a NYSC member and Abuja-based lawyer, has regained her freedom days after she was  reportedly abducted. Her release was confirmed by Festus Ogun, a human rights lawyer, in a post on X handle on Sunday, May 10, 2026. 

Eunice was reportedly abducted on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, shortly after she closed from work.  She was last seen at about 5:40 p.m. while heading home from work towards Life Camp, where she resides in a corps members’ lodge. Her disappearance was promptly reported to the Maitama Police Division and NYSC officials.

Reacting to her disappearance, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) released an official statement on Saturday, publicly demanding her immediate release while urging security agencies to intensify efforts to secure her safe return.

“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association; it is personal. We are more than a professional body; we are a community bound by shared sacrifice, shared dreams, and a collective duty to stand for one another,” the statement reads.

Ogun disclosed that Eunice was only released after some money was paid, but he did not reveal the amount allegedly paid. Still, the circumstances of her discovery, her location, and the events leading to her disappearance remain unknown.
