Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated N1 billion in relief materials and launched a women’s empowerment programme in Niger State to support victims of recent flooding and boost small-scale businesses.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu has donated N1 billion and relief materials to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation, made through her humanitarian platform, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), was presented during a condolence visit to the state on August 5, 2025. She also handed over 2,000 bags of 50kg rice, shoes, and other relief items to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna.
According to her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, who shared the news on her verified X handle, the gesture was aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced residents.
“First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to support victims of the recent flood in Mokwa, Niger State, through the Renewed Hope Initiative,” Busola Kukoyi wrote.
The devastating flood, caused by torrential rainfall on August 3, affected multiple communities across Mokwa, Lapai, and Paikoro LGAs, displacing hundreds of residents and destroying farmlands, homes, and infrastructure.
Among the affected communities in Lapai LGA are Dere, Eshi, Apataku, Tsakanabi, Kuchi Kakanda, Arah, Achiba, Rebba, Ebwa, Pele, Edda, Rigido, Gbami, Yawa, Baka, and Muye. The Niger State Government has since issued an evacuation warning, urging residents in riverine areas to relocate to safer ground.
During her visit, the First Lady expressed deep sympathy for the victims.
“I share in your pain and grief, and I believe we all can overcome this tragedy,” she said, also commending President Bola Tinubu’s quick intervention and the approval for emergency relief and reconstruction.
In addition to the flood relief, Senator Tinubu launched an economic empowerment programme targeting 18,500 women across Nigeria, including 500 beneficiaries from each of the 36 states and the FCT.
The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, will offer N50,000 grants to small-scale women traders and entrepreneurs under the RHI banner.
Speaking at the launch in Minna, Senator Oluremi said the programme was designed to boost women’s participation in economic activities and provide financial support to grassroots businesses.
Also speaking at the event, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women’s Affairs, Ms. Mary Noel Berje, described the intervention as a “living testament” to Senator Oluremi’s compassion and care.
