Summary

In solidarity to the United Nations 16th Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the Centre for Peace Advocacy and Sustainability Development held a town hall meeting to create awareness and sensitization among the community members of Esu Bwari Palace, Abuja.

With the aim to create awareness and be part of the United Nations 16 Days Activism  against Gender-Based Violence, the Centre for Peace Advocacy and Sustainability Development (CEPASD), held a town hall meeting at the Esu  of Bwari Palace in Abuja on Tuesday, Dec., 4, 2024. 

The town hall meeting, which was supported by the  government of Ireland through the Embassy of Ireland Nigeria, highlighted the need to raise the consciousness of the community and its people to the issue of Gender-Based Violence, its impact and consequences. The campaign was also a collective effort that seeks to promote the culture of  equality, human rights, and justice, aiming to enhance  an inclusive and safer world.

The town hall meeting themed, “Promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment,” witnessed community members young and old pledge their commitments to take action against GBV, speak out, and speak out to report cases of gender-based violence.

Speaking at the event, one of the executive directors of CEPASD, Augustine Igweshi, told the attendees that the campaign’s purpose is to “Impact everyone to take action and speak out against gender-based violence.”

“We must all speak out against these heinous crimes,” said Josephine Emeghogena, another executive director of CEPASD. She continued and emphasized that the collective and consistent engagement of the community in raising awareness about the alarming increase in gender-based violence is vital to eradicate this menace.

While addressing the attendees, the representatives of Esu Bwari, Dr. Plus and JH Ijawoyi stated that the place and community are committed to addressing underlying issues of Gender-Based violence through awareness and sensitization.

The campaign is set to continue on Dec. 5, 2024, at Kuje and AMAC.
