Summary: Dr Susan E. Murray trained 10 women on rebuilding confidence and repositioning themselves for workforce re-entry as part of the RediscoverHer initiative on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Dr Susan E. Murray trained women on rebuilding confidence and repositioning themselves for workforce re-entry at the sixth virtual RediscoverHer session on Thursday, April 2, 2026, via Zoom. The session was held in collaboration with Femrivied, Naija Feminists Media, and VARSH Foundation as part of the initiative to boost women’s economic participation.
Dr Susan is a globally recognised leader, consultant, executive coach, researcher, and professor with decades of experience empowering leaders and advancing women worldwide. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Memorial University, teaches executive education at the Gardiner Centre, and has consulted with leaders across every continent, helping them drive strategy, innovation, and inclusive leadership.
During the Rediscover Her programmes, Dr Susan acknowledged the shared experience of the participants, noting that stepping away from the workforce, whether to raise children, care for family members, or pursue other life decisions, was not a setback but a source of transferable value.
She stated that globally, 43 per cent of women take a career break at some point in their lives, yet most underestimate what they bring back.
“We know we can do the job, but it’s about how we position ourselves so that others know we can do the job too,” she stated.
She urged participants to reframe the skills acquired outside the formal workplace as professional assets. Women who had raised children or managed households, she stated, were among the best project managers in the world, experienced in operations, budget management, human resources, and relationship-building.
Dr Susan also addressed imposter syndrome, noting that over 70 per cent of leaders she had worked with globally identified it as something that crept in when making significant decisions or taking bold steps. She encouraged participants to take what she called bold steps, the steps that move a person from one chapter of their life into the next.
“The more we build that confidence in ourselves to take bold steps, whether small ones or big ones, we all end up on a better side,” she stated.
RediscoverHer is a month-long empowerment initiative designed for African women who have stepped away from the workplace due to marriage, caregiving, or social expectations, with sessions held virtually to ensure accessibility for women across Nigeria and Africa.
With a series of sessions already hosted, the fifth RediscoverHer training, held on March 31, 2026, trained women on emotional intelligence and workforce re-entry, facilitated by Dr Orletta Caldwell.
