Summary: Former Democratic Leadership Alliance presidential aspirant Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju has said she is stepping away from politics for now, days after receiving a refund of her N10.8 million nomination fee following her withdrawal from the party’s presidential race.
Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, a former presidential aspirant under the Democratic Leadership Alliance, has said she is stepping back from partisan politics after alleging irregularities in the party’s primary process.
Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, the only female contestant in the race, had earlier withdrawn from the presidential primary, describing the process as unfair and subsequently requesting a refund of her N10.8 million nomination fee. The party later refunded the amount following her withdrawal.
In a statement shared on X on June 6, 2026, she said she would continue her public service efforts outside party politics, adding that her focus remains on serving Nigerians through non-partisan engagements.
“My Presidential Aspiration journey is known to most of you. A Google search will tell you some details. One thing that cannot be stopped is my love for Nigerians. That work continues till the right time. No time for politicking when lives are at stake,” she wrote.
Her statement comes amid earlier reports confirming the refund of her nomination fee after she stepped down from the race.
Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju has not provided additional details on the alleged irregularities but maintains that her decision marks a pause in her political ambition.
Her decision follows similar concerns raised by other female political aspirants. Former presidential aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo also exited the race, citing unfair treatment during the process.
Similarly, Princess Abiodun Oyefusi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) challenged the outcome of the party’s Lagos State governorship primary, citing irregularities and corruption, and has taken the matter to court.
