On January 14, Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang attended the 76th Annual New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon. Organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education, the event is a significant platform for academia, industry, policymakers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on issues critical to national development.
This year’s theme, “Attaining the 5 Ps of Sustainable Development for a Resilient Ghana: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership,” highlighted the nation’s focus on sustainable growth.
Representing former President H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Prof. Naana Jane officially opened the conference, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians in alignment with the five pillars.
In her keynote address, she emphasised fostering resilience, peaceful cohabitation, and social inclusion as critical components of national progress. She further outlined the government’s agenda to empower the youth, promote sustainable development, and prioritise innovative projects to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive economy.

The Vice President expressed her excitement in sharing the stage with an all-female panel, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and Chancellor Mary Chinery-Hesse, making the event particularly noteworthy.
