Summary: A woman has expressed grief after learning that a boy who lived with her family was reportedly killed during a bandit attack at a worship centre where children had gathered for an anniversary celebration

A woman has shared her grief in a video posted on social media after learning that a young boy who lived with her mother was reportedly killed during a bandit attack at a worship centre in Nigeria. The visibly distressed woman said in the video posted on June 1, 2026, that her mother had informed her of an attack on a mountain prayer ground where she regularly worshipped.

According to her, the attack occurred while children were spending the night at the worship centre ahead of an anniversary celebration. The boy, who had lived with her family for several years, was among those present during the gathering.

She described the boy as a child she regularly supported and cared for.

“My mum told me that armed attackers stormed the worship centre, killed several people and took others away,” she said. She added that poor network coverage made it difficult to get clear information about those affected.

The woman later received confirmation that the boy was among those killed in the attack.

She also claimed that several other people were abducted during the incident, including relatives of church leaders. However, authorities had not publicly confirmed the figures mentioned in the video as of the time of reporting.

Throughout the recording, the woman repeatedly expressed concern about insecurity in Nigeria and called for prayers for survivors and affected families.

“I pray God heal my country. I pray God heal my mom,” she said.

Bandit attacks and mass abductions have continued to affect communities in several parts of Nigeria, with worship centres, schools and rural settlements in Oyo State coming under attack.
