NFM launches a campaign under the theme “I Am Not Your Prey or Afraid No More.” from November 25 to December 10 to combat male violence against women on #16DaysofActvisim
The Naija Feminist Media (NFM) is excited to announce the launch of its 16 Days of Activism campaign under the theme “I Am Not Your Prey or Afraid No More.” As a radical feminist platform in Nigeria’s media landscape, NFM is dedicated to amplifying women’s voices, challenging oppressive norms, and advocating for gender equality and inclusivity through diverse knowledge products.
This year’s campaign will feature a series of impactful activities, including media literacy articles, collaborations with women’s rights organisations, and the publication of literary works such as poetry and essays. These efforts aim to create awareness, break harmful gender stereotypes, amplify Black feminist views, and inspire action for a fairer society.
Speaking on the purpose of NFM’s #16DaysOfActivism campaign, NFM Communications Officer Oluwafunmbi Ogunsola stated:
“The campaign seeks to initiate difficult conversations and drive radical change in societal views and the punishment of these acts.” She added, “For every day of the campaign, we will be highlighting women’s voices on their diverse experience of male violence against women.”
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, held annually from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day), is a global campaign that started in 1991. It seeks to raise awareness, mobilise action, and challenge violence against women and girls worldwide, calling for systemic change and the involvement of individuals, communities, and governments in the fight against gender-based violence.
Gender-based violence (GBV), or male violence against women and girls (MVAWG), is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. Gender-based violence refers to violence directed at a person because of their gender or that disproportionately affects people of a specific gender. Violence against women, recognised as both a human rights violation and a form of discrimination, includes all acts of gender-based violence that result in physical, sexual, psychological, or economic harm or suffering for women. This violence can also encompass domestic violence impacting women, men, or children living within the same household.
We encourage members of the public to join the campaign and report any form of GBV to corresponding organisations. Let’s unite in advocacy during the #16DaysofActivism.
